With a sentencing that recognizes that no proof has been produced in trial against the twenty-five (twenty-four, as one was already dead) accused of the “riot” in the portuguese prison of Caxias on the 23rd of March of nineteen-ninety six, we can celebrate the total absolution of all the defendants in this process. Our fight doesn’t stop here, but we would like to thank everyone who, directly or indirectly, gave an indispensable support against this farse-process.
With an attentive olfaction and waiting for the smell of the ashes of the last prison, here we are and here we stand!

Next Wednesday it goes on the “Caxias Prison Riot” trial, in the courthouse of Oeiras.
Therefore we convoke a solidarity demonstration in front of the court, at 11 am.

On the 17th of June there was another session of the trial, where 3 accusation witnesses came to make their declarations.
The first one – the engineer in charge of the repairing works in the prison after the “riot” – even admitted that the high price for that work was not only applied in the renovation of the 3rd floor (where the so-called riot took place) but in other locations in the prison, which was necessary according to prison regulations. The 20th of May 209, among other things that occupied our souls and our time, there was another session of the trial against the 25 ex-inmates of Caxias prison, accused of destruction of prison property, arson and mutiny. The 20th of May we assisted to another session of the farce-trial of “25 of Caxias”, in which “important” accusation witnesses: Salvador Godinho, the then director of the Caxias prison, now retired; the sub-chief Frazão, who was then playing chief of the guards, in the Caxias prison; the sub-chief Magalhães, then in the E.P. of Caxias, now retired; and the chief of the GISP (Grupo de Intervenção dos Serviços Prisionais – Intervention Squat of the Prison Services).
They mainly said all the same, not recognizing the accused men, not identifying them as authors of the barricades and the fires, and only referring 2 of them as being the representatives of the inmates, at the time. Ler mais… »
